Happy Fall STAND family! We hope you are all well and looking forward to some cooler weather. For those of you affected by the recent hurricanes, you are in our hearts and minds. Please reach out if we can help in any way.
While much of the Caribbean and some of the USA have been slammed by crazy weather, Haiti has luckily been spared. Despite this, Haiti continues to be in a “state of emergency”. The gangs have total control over the capitol and most of the cities along the main highways. This continues to make it extremely difficult and unsafe for travel anywhere in the country and makes the transport of all goods nearly impossible. Kidnapping is still rampant and for this reason many children have not been to school in many months. While, Port de Paix is generally safe, there have been protests in the area recently that forced the clinic to shut down for a few days for the safety of both the patients and staff.
Despite these obstacles, our clinic continues to thrive thanks to all your support. Our clinic continues to burst at the seams, treating both pediatric and adult patients each day. Many of our pediatric patients are seen in their homes since the gas shortage has made it very difficult for some of our patients to travel. We are continuing to build adaptive devices that are life changing for our patients and expand out nutrition program. We have added several new staff to our pediatric clinic who are super excited to learn and interact with our patients on a daily basis.
Additionally, our adult clinic has gained two new therapists! We welcome Samantha (PT) and Sainfolia (Rehab Tech) to our adult treatment team. We are very excited as these two have already proven to be hard working, ingenuitive, and dedicated to improving the lives of those in Port de Paix! As their schedules build, they have been treating both orthopedic and neurological cases, assisting patients in life changing care.
As always, thank you in advance for helping to keep our clinic open, one of very few in community!
