This project will provide milk cows to the Mwaji Secondary School in Tanzania. This school educates orphans to give them opportunities to have a better life. These cows will provide milk to the students. Due to persistent rural poverty with drought, food shortages, and and lack of available milk, it is difficult to source milk for the students. Having dairy cows provides a consistent source of necessary nutrition for the orphan students so they are able to concentrate in learning at school.
Milk production is mostly from small scale household farms with one or two cows and the families consume the milk themselves. Sourcing milk for the 94 students at Mwaji Secondary School is difficult. The school provides meals for the students as most orphans come from families who are very poor. There is high food insecurity in the area, especially for orphans.
Students need good nutrition and regular meals to be able to concentrate on learning and getting an education. Getting an education is one of their only ways our of poverty. With an education they can get a job and support their families while also helping the economic condition of the country. Orphans Africa provides nutrition, safe housing, and health insurance to the orphans. Milk is an important part of the nutrition program.
The long-term impact of this project is that the school will become self-sustaining and be able to education thousands of orphans in Tanzania. Education gives them opportunities to go on to college, to find jobs, to support their families and have a higher quality of life. Milk gives the students some of the nutrition they need. They don't need to have to worry about when their next meal will be, and instead can concentrate on school and bettering themselves.
