Recently, the social work team at the HUG Project, along with the lawyer for the child survivors went to obtain signatures from the parents of the survivors. These signatures were imperative so that we could proceed with gathering evidence and using the children’s testimony in court. During each meeting with the families, our staff informed the parents about the entire justice process, updated them on how the girls are doing, and reviewed the children’s rights so the parents were well-informed. The meetings ended up going very well and all of the parents signed the legal authorization documents, so their children have permission to testify. We really commend the team that went to visit the parents because without their patience and clear explanation, it’s possible that the parents would have refused to sign the documents.
Four children will testify in court in December. This can be really difficult for a child so we’re preparing to be there to emotionally support the girls throughout the entire process. Our team is very grateful that we have the signatures and the court dates established. We would not be able to be as helpful without your support and funds. The child survivors are in good hands and they are so incredibly brave for being willing to testify so they can get the justice they deserve. Thank you so much for continuing to support us, so we have the opportunity to support child survivors of human trafficking.
