In late March, HUG Project was notified by a victim who said her personal images were being sold in a chat group. She disclosed that this group also offered child sexual abuse material for 175 baht per clip. Our team requested TICAC to assist with the investigation, which lead to a search warrant that was issued for the suspect’s house. We discovered a large number of recorded child sexual abuse material as evidence. Through more evidence collecting and collaboration with the police, we also were able to identify 3 young girls and 1 woman that were used to sell on-demand child sexual abuse material. the TICAC team was able to arrest 1 suspect and rescue 4 survivors. We’re thankful for such great teamwork and collaboration among so many officers. We’re also grateful for your donations because it helped us work on this case as well as safe transportation for the survivors as they go through the justice process.
On another note, we recently hosted personnel from the FBI, Royal Thai Police, and the Office of the Attorney General. We’re especially thrilled because the FBI is supporting our child interview room! The child interview rooms allows for child survivors to disclose their abuse one-on-one with a trained professional in a room that is 100% child-friendly. In the past, the survivors were interviewed in a busy room with people going in and out, loud background noises, and no privacy. The children felt like they were retraumatized by the investigation experience, so we knew that things had to change.
This room is crucial during an investigation because a child’s testimony has the ability to put criminals behind bars. If the child feels comfortable and safe in the interview room, then they are more likely to open up. Thank you again, FBI, for supporting this very important room!
