Help a Displaced Family in Haiti with Food/Basics

Members of local grassroots organizations throughout Haiti have been working hard to reach a semblance of normalcy post-quake.  In efforts to help survivors displaced by the earthquake start again, Lambi Fund has provided a number of valuable training workshops.  Some of these training sessions include:

• A 2-day workshop in goat breeding/animal husbandry was provided for the Organization of Peasants from Bige (OPB).  The objective of this training was to reinforce the organization’s technical capacity for goat rearing and to incorporate modern approaches for goat raising into their daily efforts.  This workshop included discussions about creating a permanent source of forage through the cultivation and preservation of nutritional plants, veterinary care, open grazing, the importance of enclosures for the environment, and effective breeding techniques and strategies.
• A Microcredit Workshop was provided for the Association of Ba Rivyè Mansèl (AGPBRM).  This organization has 201 members whose goal is to improve their members’ financial conditions by managing a loan fund that makes loans to farmers and market women with a low interest rate of 2%.   This Credit Fund Management seminar discussed effective record keeping, calculating credit, loan-making, management, oversight, and transparency.

Trainings like these help provide members of communities in rural Haiti with the knowledge and know-how to manage and operate effective business ventures that improve livelihoods and create sources of income.
