Project Report | Aug 30, 2021
Bright Light

By Jessie Teerman | Executive Director

We're so glad to see active COVID-19 cases going down in Cambodia and schools set to reopen later this year. However, in addition to stay-at-home rules, layoffs in various sectors in Cambodia have compounded economic problems and caused parents to take desperate measures when income and food was scarce. We know that during times of crisis the vulnerable typically become more vulnerable, which is why this project's protection and relief efforts are so valuable.

Since April, we have delivered two months worth of emergency supplies to over 500 people, and we will continue to provide them with psychological support, counselling, healthcare and a little extra rice when they need it.

In addition, this year we received numerous hotline calls. One of the calls came from Raksa. She lived with five members of her family, all who were struggling to pay for food. Before COVID hit, they had taken out a debt to purchase a Tuk Tuk that their father drove to support the family. But during the latest lockdown, his income dropped to nothing. The children complained about being hungry each night and the Raksa's  family became desperate.

Because of Raksa's call, AusCam was able to deliver emergency food and hygiene supplies to her family, and provide them with ongoing support as her father regains employment. Raksa did not have to drop out of school or engage in exploitative work to save her family all because of the support you -- our global supporters -- made possible.
There is a bright light on the other side of this pandemic and we're so grateful to have you doing this work with us until we reach it.

Thank you!
