Poaching is devastating lions in northern Greater Kruger, one of their last strongholds in South Africa. In partnership with the Endangered Wildlife Trust, we're taking urgent action to combat this crisis. This region has become a battleground, where lions fall to snares and poisoning. Without intervention, these apex predators could disappear in our lifetime.
In the heart of the northern Kruger, lions are being wiped out at an alarming rate. Poachers set deadly wire snares that tighten around their prey, inflicting days of agony before death. Others lace carcasses with poison-one kill meant for a lion can lead to a chain reaction, wiping out entire ecosystems. Early March 2025, 3 of our 18 collared lions were snared in a period of 10 days. Without immediate action, the future of lions in this critical landscape is at risk.
To combat this crisis, we've deployed a specialized taskforce to protect Kruger's carnivores. With real-time monitoring and rapid response, they dismantle snaring and poisoning networks. Lions fitted with satellite collars provide critical data, allowing rangers to intervene before it's too late. If a lion is snared or poisoned, every second counts - anti poaching teams can then locate, rescue, and treat them immediately. Every snare removed is a life saved.
This project goes beyond emergency response-it tackles the root causes of poaching. By creating conservation jobs for local youth, we offer an alternative to the illegal wildlife trade. When communities become protectors, not bystanders, poaching networks weaken, and Africa's lions have a future. This isn't just about stopping the killings-it's about ensuring lions roam wild and free for generations to come.
