Do you want to protect one of Earth's last biodiversity strongholds - the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica - and support the livelihoods of its inhabitants? The Osa Peninsula is "the most biologically intense place on earth" (National Geographic). The Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN) needs your support to conduct training and capacity building with 100 farmers and their families on environmental friendly agricultural production practices, biodiversity protection and forest restoration.
While the Peninsula hosts 2.5% of the entire biodiversity of our planet, on only 0.000001% of the Earth's surface - 35% of its inhabitants live in poverty. Sustainable agriculture in harmony with nature can protect local livelihoods while providing food security. The 100 family farmers (30% women) can become game changers - proving to the world that small investments & local capacity building can contribute significantly to natural resource protection while improving human-wellbeing.
Do you wonder how we are going to do this? Our trainings will equip the farmers with the needed knowledge & skills that enable them to develop their own solutions for biodiversity conservation while having better farm productivity & income. The trainings will be on good agricultural practices, biodiversity protection & forest restoration techniques, income diversification, collective action & small holder business development. As donor, we will take you along their journey - we must start now!
By supporting this cause, you will help us to equip 100 farmers with knowledge & skills in sustainable agriculture that enables them to enhance their food security, income & protect biodiversity for a lifetime. You will be part of a unique 1-year sustainable development approach - owned & driven by the community. After this initial phase, we aim to continue & replicate the approach - to let biodiversity & local communities of the Osa Peninsula & other places thrive - for generations to come!
