Getting ready for our next bicycle distribution!

By Vanna | Project B team member

We are from the Project B Communication Department and would like to update you about interviewing students at Ruel High School. The school is located in Ruel Village, Ruel Commune, Pouk District, and Siem Reap Province. As you know, we visited this school at the beginning of the month, and we decided to interview the students who are studying there to provide them with bicycles. Please take a look at the detailed information and processes for the mission below.

  • Date:  July 17, 2023
  • Time: 6:30 a.m.–2 p.m.
  • Place: Ruel High School
  • Topic: Interview Students
  • Leaders: Vanna and Somphors
  • Interviewers: Leat, Vanna, Somphors, Bopha, Chantrea, Chhengheang, Saveat, Sin, Pin, Kongkea, Tangly, Rida, Chanthan, Veasna Vanna, March, Sievyien, Lita, Somey, Sreyna, and Porm.

Before the mission started:

First of all, Vanna communicated with the school director at Ruel High School through his phone number and telegram to inform him of the activity we would do at his school. We asked him to prepare two classrooms for us to do the interview and also inform the students who would be interviewed to come to school. Actually, we got the names of poor and bright students after the first visit. After he agreed on the date and time with us, our team started printing out the documents (Interview forms) and students' names. A day before the up-coming mission, we informed all participants to prepare themselves for joining us as we needed to walk a long distance from school to the students' houses. Everything was prepared well for the interview.

During the mission:

We had had a great morning and met together at the CRST campus in the early morning, as we informed them. We went directly to the restaurant and had breakfast to get energy for fighting the mission. On the way to school, we shared some important information with the interviewers to make sure they understood and obeyed the process. We arrived at the school at 8 a.m. We were warmly welcomed by the teachers there. He guided us to the classrooms that he had prepared for us to have a speech with students and do the interview. We shared some background about the NGO and Project B with students and let them know that we would not provide bicycles to all of them to ensure they would not be disappointed with us. Then we grouped them into ten groups (we had ten groups as well) based on the distance from school to their houses. After that, our interviewers started asking students one by one. We spent almost an hour and a half interviewing the students at the school. The next step was to go to the students' houses to get some information from their parents and take some pictures with their family. It was the most challenging for us because the students live so far from school. Fortunately, we asked for help from the teachers by borrowing some motorcycles to travel to the students' houses. So, some groups could use the teachers' transportation, and some could use the bus to get to the students' houses. Everyone worked so hard to complete the mission. Some could finish earlier, and some were late because it was so far and the path was not easy to travel.

The end of the mission:

We finished all the steps of the interview at over 1 p.m. We successfully completed the mission. We interviewed 57 students at the school and went to take pictures at all their houses. As the time was up, the project B team was thankful and showed gratitude to the teachers for assisting from the beginning until we finished the activity. We also provided the gasoline for the motorcycles that we used on the mission. We were quickly back to buy foods in Pouk Market and travel to Bayray to have lunch together. Everyone looked quite exhausted and hungry because it was later than we had planned. We enjoyed the meals and view of the Baray together. We took a few moments to unwind after lunch and travel back to Siem Reap, where we arrived safely.

We really appreciate all the PB teams and all the contributors for participating in our interactive activity. They had all done a great job for many students who needed us to support their education. Without these amazing people, the mission could not go smoothly. We are looking forward to seeing them involved with us next time. Last but not least, we would love to say thank you so much for spending your valuable time to read the report. We also attached some photos that show the activities that we did on the interview day. We can't wait to see the bike donation event at this school
