By Julio Arze | Zenon can change his life with a disability card
Dear friends of GlobalGiving and Tukuy Pacha Association:
Why is the disability card so important in Bolivia? Unfortunately, in our country if a person with disabilities doesn’t have this document he cannot access to the services and benefits that the Bolivian government has incorporated into its regulations.
For example: the "bolivianito", as they say, is a person with multiple disability (mental and psychical) who lives in the municipality of Capinota; he is a typical case of the harsh reality that many people with disabilities live in Bolivia. When Tukuy Pacha met him for the first time he didn’t have his identification documents and his living conditions were very heart-breaking. He can’t work because of his disability, he did not receive any wage, and his family, who is a low-income family, couldn’t provide him technical support helping him improve mobility and independence. Furthermore, he couldn’t access to the health system according to his needs.
Nowadays, after a long process, Zeno has all the necessary documents to obtain his disability card, with that he will receive protected income that Bolivian government grants to the people with severe and very severe disability. With that document, he will be able to ask for tailored technical assistance that will let him improve his independence. He will also have free access to all the health centers of the country.
As well as the "bolivianito", we hope to help more people to get their disability card and gain access to various benefits. We are aware that we still need to raise funds to reach our goal and we hope to do so with your donation.
Thank you for your support and trust.
