Villagers who received a goat
In January a team from Portland, Oregon traveled to Uganda to do some construction work. While there they got to distribute 65 goats to widows, orphans, and handicapped individuals in a remote village. These distributions turn out to be a huge village wide celebration. The entire village turns out dressed in their best clothes. Local government officials come and give speeches. They always thank us for helping their people. It is always a highlight of our trips. It truly is a gift that keeps on giving. Another team will be going again in January and we would like to raise enough money by then to distribute more goats. Thanks for making this project possible.

Group of 63 that received a goat
A team of 8 from Portland, Oregon traveled to rural northeastern Uganda January 24 to work on several projects with a Ugandan NGO. The first thing we got to do was to give away 63 goats that we had raised money for through our Serve Uganda Global Giving campaign. The pregnant goats were given to deserving widows, orphans or handicapped recipents as identifed by their tribal leaders. It was a great day of clebration in the village. The whole village came, even ones that were not receiving a goat. There was a ceremony where local govenment officials spoke and thanked Serve Uganda and the local NGO for helping these dear people.
The agreement is that the receipient cannot eat the goat. They can only sell or trade. The hope is that they will keep the goat, raise the babies and over time build up a herd that they can us for income. This is one of the most successful programs we have seen in Uganda. It truly changes lives. It helps children go to school, build a home, pay medical bills.
This turly is a life changing investment. Thanks to all who gave to this project. It would not have been possible without you. You are a life giver.

Here come the goats!
By Mike Hildenbrand | Project Leader
Because of your generous support we raised $911.70 to purchase pregnant goats that will be given to widows or orphans in rural Uganda. This will be a life changer for them. On January 24 a team of eight from Portland, Oregon will head to Uganda to work alongside the Ugandans on a number of projects. One of those projects is to travel to a rural village and help to distribute the goats. This is a major event in the life of the whole village. Everyone dresses up and comes to celebrate, even the ones who will not be receiving a goat. A local government official comes to join in the celebration. Then the whole village has a meal together. I love to see the joy on their faces.
When our team returns in early February I will send a fuller report complete with pictures.
Without you this would not be possible. I will tell the Ugandans about the amazing people from different parts of the world that came together to make this possible.
Thank You
