Report on the Education Support for Girl Orphans

By Mohamud Hassan Ali | Project Leader

Dear Esteemed Donors,

We are excited to provide you with an update on the ongoing educational support for orphaned girls in Somalia. Your continued generosity has enabled us to sustain and grow this vital project, and we remain deeply grateful for your commitment to the futures of these young girls.

Project Overview

Thanks to your support, we have continued to provide educational resources for 20 orphaned girls, ages 13 to 24, who are enrolled in the program. The initiative remains focused on equipping these girls with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed academically and socially. The key components of the program include:

• School Fees: Ensuring all enrolled girls are able to attend school without the burden of financial barriers.

• Clothing: Supplying school uniforms and clothing to boost their self-confidence and promote dignity.

• Learning Materials: Providing textbooks, stationery, and access to technology, ensuring the girls have the resources to thrive in their education.

Progress and Achievements

We are pleased to share that the girls have officially commenced their four-year educational journey as of August 2024 up to May 2025. This milestone marks an important step towards their personal and academic development. As of now, they are engaged in their first term of school and have shown tremendous enthusiasm and dedication to their studies.

Notable Achievements:

• All girls have successfully enrolled in reputable local schools, and we are closely monitoring their academic progress to ensure they are meeting their potential.

• The first round of mentorship sessions and life skills workshops has been completed, providing these girls with vital skills for their futures, such as leadership, communication, and financial literacy.

• The girls’ overall well-being has significantly improved, with many reporting an increase in their confidence and sense of empowerment.

We are already seeing the positive impact of these efforts, and the girls' academic performance has exceeded initial expectations. We are confident that with continued support, they will continue to excel in their studies and become the future leaders and change-makers Somalia needs.

Challenges and Continued Needs

While we have achieved great success in getting the girls started on their educational path, we face several ongoing challenges that require additional support:

• Access to Advanced Learning Tools: While the current provision of textbooks and stationery has been helpful, access to digital learning tools and online educational platforms remains limited due to internet connectivity and technological barriers in rural areas. Expanding this access would further enhance the girls' learning opportunities.

• Increasing Demand for Support: The need for educational assistance for orphaned girls in Somalia continues to grow, and we are currently unable to accommodate all the requests for enrollment. Many more orphaned girls are eager to benefit from similar opportunities, and we are committed to expanding this program as funding allows.

• Sustained Sponsorship for the Girls: As the girls advances in their education, the costs of school fees, uniforms, and learning materials will rise. We are actively seeking additional sponsorships to ensure that the financial burden on these girls remains light, allowing them to focus entirely on their studies.

Our Commitment to the Future

At HRDC, we are deeply committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and providing marginalized girls with the opportunity to transform their lives through education. We continue to work closely with our partners to ensure that the project not only meets the educational needs of these girls but also provides a holistic approach to their personal development.

A Call to Action

We ask for your continued partnership in sustaining and expanding this initiative. With your support, we can ensure that these girls—and many more like them—have the opportunity to achieve their full potential and contribute to the future of Somalia. We invite you to share this report within your networks to help raise awareness of the educational needs of orphaned girls and to encourage further donations to support their futures.

Together, we can empower these young girls to become leaders, break the cycle of poverty, and create a brighter future for Somalia.

Thank you once again for your invaluable support. Your generosity is shaping the future of these girls, and by extension, the future of an entire community.

Warm regards,
The HRDC Team
