A Culinary Journey for a Cause

By Basanti Lama | Senior Philanthropy Officer

Tewa has been bringing into practice the community philanthropy to create a sustainable development in communities since its establishment whereas the economic crises began in Nepal in different periods/situations, which affect to Nepalese women's lives. Tewa team is more concerned about it and aimed to raise funds throughout the year to provide grants to the women groups and organizations as per their needs.

This Fiscal Year 2022/23 (FY), Tewa had decided to organize a fundraising event Newari Bhoj (traditional cuisine of Newar cast). In the Kathmandu valley Newar cuisine became the easy access for quick planning and managing. Keeping this in the mind Tewa approached with a women group (Maa Pucha:) of Kathmandu to prepare the Newari food for this event. Maa Pucha: also became ready and supported This event with wonderful taste and varieties of foods as per Newar culture.

In this event Tewa did not only focus on fundraising parts instead became more concerned to meet the satisfaction of the guests and those who were attended for the first time to Tewa to spreading more community philanthropy and Tewa's information to them.

Maa Pucha Team served more than 15 newari item in snacks, dinner and desert. All the participants enjoyed this event having the dinner. Majority of the guests expressed that the test of the food was very delicious and requested to Tewa to organize same Bhoj again soon.

To make this event successful Tewa printed more than 300 tickets and sold it to its networks, staff, board/members, volunteers, grantee groups, different organizations and individuals in each fundraising event.

From this event we are able to raise NRs. 206,955.00 (USD 1561.00). Tewa proudly shares that collected funds from this event as well go to the needy women groups/ organizations' support in Nepal.
