Dermatosis Pruginea on child at APF Fondwa Clinic
Dear Friends of the APF Fondwa Clinic:
The last quarter of 2023 was a busy time here in Fondwa. While the insecurity and gang activity continue in Haiti, most of this violence remains confined to Port-au-Prince. Here in the mountains of Fondwa, we have been able to continue our mission to provide health care to this region of rural Haiti.
Below are some highlights of our 4th Q 2023 activity:
- In October we had a total of 99 visits, 60 patients for consultation and 39 for vaccinations;
- In November we had a total of 59 visits, 31 patients for consultation and 28 for vaccinations;
- In December we had a total of 116 visits: 35 patients for consultation and 30 for vaccinations. A mobile clinic was also held on December 16 at the Fondwa clinic, in partnership with a group of Cuban doctors. This mobile initiative included gynecologists, general practitioners, surgeons and obstetricians who provided care to an additional 51 patients in December.
Education remains a large part of our mission, and we offered the following sessions during 4th Q 2023:
- We raised parents' awareness about self-care;
- We raised awareness also about breast cancer detection; and,
- We raised parents' awareness of the importance of consultations and laboratory tests.
Additionally, during 4th Q 2023, we referred 10 patients to a hospital so they could access a specialist for their pathology. There were also 2 home visits.
The most frequent illnesses encountered during this period included acute respiratory infection, hypertension, diabetes, emergencies, gastritis, typhoid fever, genital-urinary infection, intestinal parasitosis, anemia, dermatitis, and malnutrition.
Your donations toward this work are so impactful, and your partnership means a lot. Without you, and every contribution large and small, we would not be able to provide healthcare to Fondwa -- a region that would not have access otherwise. All of us at APF, and at the APF Fondwa Clinic, are so very grateful. We know there are many needs in our world right now, so we are extra grateful that we remain a part of your giving focus.
On behalf of everyone here in the mountains of Fondwa,
Miss Kerline Thermozier and Dr. Maguy Louinise Randiche
