Twenty young indigenous women 50% single mothers, face discrimination, gender violence, and economic marginalization. Integrating gender perspectives in to this project will support a development program to strength their leadership by economic empowerment, entrepreneurial skills integrating gender perspectives, to advanced their inequity life conditions.
Indigenous Women at Chiapas highlands are one of the most vulnerable groups, whom lives in poverty conditions, violence and discrimination expressed in different forms of social exclusion. Historically they has been mainly assigned to the domestic space and unpaid labour activities, depriving them of access to education, paid work, and training programs, which limits their access to knowledge and therefore the development of capacities to improve their wellness and that of their families.
Establish a training program for young indigenous women, prioritizing economic empowerment as a fundamental aspect of gender justice. Through a business training program that consists of: training in cutting and sewing, development of new products, and the visualization of new ventures opportunities that represent an economic alternative in their communities to set their own micro business that will allow them to have steady incomes.
This program will allow the indigenous women to generate incomes, promote the social business organization of women, increase their level of empowerment, build their economic autonomy which is relative according to the uses and customs of their communities, the recognition and valorization of their work, and its economic contribution to the development of their families and communities. Finally, will have an impact on the reduction of gender inequalities that affect rural indigenous women.
