Meet Ana! She lives in the San Jose Adentro section of Baitoa, Dominican Republic. During the COVID-19 pandemic Ana has been receiving bags of food from Project Hearts (one of GRACE Cares’s partners) to survive. Here is a brief interview that provides a window into her life and experiences during the time of the pandemic:
Q: How did the situation of COVID-19 personally impact you?
A: I was a little scared that this virus might reach my family - we are all vulnerable, and we do not have the resources to survive the virus, and we are old. We're just asking God to let this all pass soon.
Q: How has the situation impacted your family?
A: My family has been out of work, mainly my son. We've had weeks where we don't know what to do or how to pay for the electricity and things like that. Praying no one in my family will get the virus.
Q: How has the virus impacted your community?
A: It has impacted things here a little, especially some things have not been available in the grocery stores, such as bread. And the church has been closed, so I have many friends I have not seen.
Q: How have the bags of food helped you during this time?
A: I'm very grateful, they helped me a lot during this time. I’m very grateful that in these circumstances Project Hearts helped me, and my whole family. It's a great thing.
