The topic of palliative patients is not illuminated enough in Ukrainian society. Thus, after the treatment in the hospital is finished, the palliative child is sent home, while his/her family is left without any psychological or financial help form the government.
The charity fund «Tabletochki» purchases medications, care products and presents in order to make the last months and days of our wards’ lives less painful and more happy.
Our ward Vlad, who is 4 years, was diagnosed a neuroblastoma, stage 4. He started the treatment in the hospital on 26.01.2017.
When Vlad entered our Palliative care program, he was discharged from hospital with negative prognosis. His mucosa and urinary tract were burned by the chemical therapy. At the moment he is being treated at home.
Despite his heavy stage Vald remains positive boy and helps his mother at home. Even though he cannot walk anymore, he keeps walking on his knees. He lets his mother change his diaper while tries to make her laugh and laughs himself.
We provide this family with madications. Besides, in the end of December 2017, the volunteers of the Fund congratulated Vlad and his family with Christmas and a New Year, dressed up as a Santa Claus. Vlad enjoyed the show and loved presents!
Since than he doesnt leave his presents even for a minute and keeps telling everyone that REAL SANTA CLAUSE greeted him with these toys!
In October-December 2017 we bought the following medications for our palliative wards: Elobiocrin, Avastin, Maklenem, Carboplatin-Vista, Albumin, Diaprazol, Vankomisin, Vankomisin-vokate, Nutriflex, Vinblastine-vinko, Karboplatin-vista, Kaslkori, Azitromizin-farmeks, Kleksan, Albunorm, Geptral, etc.
We also purchased the following care products and consumables: diapers, wet wipes, antiseptic, gauze bandages, urological pads, catheters, bandages, gloves.
Apart from providing families with medications and consumables we give psychological help. The salary of the psychologist helping pallietive families for the whole period (October-December) equaled 670 USD.
Meanwhile raising awareness of the society of the Palliative topic remains one of our major goals.
