The Artolution Rohingya artist team has been hard at work in collaboration with our humanitarian aid partners to activate Unicef’s “Model Mother Mobilisers” and “Youth Volunteer” mobilisers to assess issues of women and children in order to inform community interventions. Mobilisers participated in an Artolution community art workshop that began with an open dialogue on the issues that impact their lives and how they might deliver lifesaving messages to their local communities. Our artists are on pace to work  in 18 information service sites where model mother and youth volunteers develop the stories to paint on the walls. The women have described how the Rohingya youth participated “with the enthusiasm of a festival, singing and dancing during project time”. They painted their sorrow, their happiness, and their futures.

Another mother  shared her experience: “It’s like light where all dark will remove. We were not allowed to even touch paint inside Myanmar but today, I am painting along with my kids. With freedom and a wish. It makes me happy.”

Our latest mural painted at a local Women Led Center further focused on the ideas of Rohingya women. Our female artists led workshops to engage Rohingya women in dialogue about their culture and the skills they are learning at the center. They chose to represent strength and resilience, and the significance of this community center,  through the image of a woman carefully stitching her culture, community, and traditions into a flowing fabric.

Our Artolutioni Rohingya artist team participated in another project with the Bangladeshi host community to further promote social cohesion. More than 100  Rohingya and Bangladeshi youth painted a giant bus together that will be used at a local college for student transportation. The youth chose to express what it means to live in peaceful coexistence and how they can show this to their community and to the world.
