Solidarity with Don Marcial:
Do you remember the story of Don Marcial, the 102-year-old resident of Drake Bay who lost his home in a devastating fire?
When this news spread, the local community were deeply moved, and our organization, which has long been dedicated to supporting and protecting this beautiful area, felt a strong commitment to help Don Marcial rebuild his home.
After several weeks of effort, thanks to the generosity of people loke you, and the hard work of local volunteers, we raised $4,000. This amount was sufficient to buy materials to help construct a new house for Don Marcial.
With a radiant smile, he expressed his gratitude to each supporter, reminding them that true wealth lies in solidarity. Thus, in the heart of the community, Don Marcial’s story became a beautiful reminder that, by working together, we can overcome adversity.
Community Engagement:
The Corcovado Foundation is part of the local emergency committee and has completed training for "Tsunami Ready." Additionally, we are working on signage for communities to ensure preparedness in the event of a tsunami in the area.
Furthermore, we are involved in coordinating the Community Rural and Archaeological Tourism project, benefiting 15 individuals from the community. In collaboration with UNED (State University), we have organized a permanent English course in the Progreso community, and we are working with the National Museum to develop an archaeological route in Progreso. We are also providing support to the local committee that will oversee this project.
Another piece of good news is that we have hosted the network against gender violence. Every three months, we assist in disseminating information within the community so that women can access public institutions in our facilities.
Management and care of companion animals to reduce their impact on wild species in Drake Bay, Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica:
In our organization, we have organized four spay/neuter campaigns from November 2023 to September 2024. Each campaign brings professional veterinarians to Drake Bay to perform the procedures.
These subsidized campaigns allow local communities to pay only a nominal fee for altering their pets, and they also receive post-operative care, including antibiotics and anti-inflammatory treatments.
We focus our efforts on four communities where the conflict between pets and wildlife is most pressing and where families face greater challenges: El Progreso, Boca Ganado, Rancho Quemado, and Los Ángeles. Through these four campaigns, we successfully neutered 121 pets with the support of the Alice Morgan Wright-Edith Goode Trust.
Bringing smiles and hope to local Children this Christmas:
This year, as we do every year, the Corcovado Foundation is collecting 115 gifts to bring joy this Christmas to children in five of the most vulnerable communities in Drake Bay. This initiative aims to spread happiness and hope to the youngest members of our community during a season that symbolizes generosity and solidarity.
With candies, activities, and snacks, we will host festive celebrations in December to ensure these children feel the Christmas spirit and experience human warmth.
Your continued support and trust in our organization have been key to achieving all of these goals. Thank you so much!
