Five hundred food packages have been delivered for the elderly citizens and the most underprivileged families in Drake Bay since April 2020 to relieve the economic situation during this pandemic.
The health crisis caused by the COVID19 pandemic has brought international tourism to an all-time low. While some other tourist-oriented destinations have bet on local tourism in the medium term, the Osa Peninsula was not a destination favored by the national sector because of its remoteness. Therefore, many companies remain closed, and the local communities are getting desperate, pushing local people to go back to mining, hunting, and logging.
Many elderly citizens have survived from whatever their kids could spare, but given the situation, their sons and daughters are now unemployed and they barely have enough to survive themselves. This situation motivated the Corcovado Foundation to refocus its work to serve the most vulnerable people in its history served communities.
Every month our team in Osa prepare food packages including rice, beans, soap, hand sanitizer, and many other items and distribute them to families in remote corners of the Osa Peninsula. “I don’t know what we would have done without this package of food you bring to us every month” said one an 85 year old lady when we were delivering her food.
The pandemic is not over, but we see the light at the end of the tunnel. Shine bright in these times of darkness, donate during the Little by Little Campaign and help us maintain our efforts to bring relief to those that need it the most. Every donation under $50 usd that you make from March 8th to the 12th will be match at a 50%.
