Celebrating Our Women and Children

By Sarah Long | Development Manager

Residents at the Picnic
Residents at the Picnic

For the second year, the Women's Housing Coalition hosted a summer picnic for our residents at Sandy Point State Park in Maryland, a beach park on the Chesapeake Bay. This is an opportunity for all of our women and children to eat good food, play games, enjoy the sand and water, and celebrate each other. Many of our families would not have the opportunity to go to the beach were it not for this annual picnic. Many wouldn't even have the opportunity to get out of Baltimore City... And this picnic wouldn't be possible if we didn't have generous donors and supporters that recognize the importance of taking time to celebrate our residents.

To help our women open the doors to change, the Women's Housing Coalition recognizes that we need to not only provide things like a bed to sleep in and a course on budgeting. We need to provide moments of celebration. We need to help our residents realize their inherent worth and celebrate their day to day victories.

Thank you for giving us the ability to provide not only a bed and programming but a way to celebrate our women and children.

P.S. - I'll let you in on a little secret. Our summer picnic also helps our women and children work on their social skills through games and other activities, their accountability and timeliness when they show up to the bus on time, and other life skills. These skills are vital to getting our women back on their feet and working towards a stable future.
