Challenge

The biggest problem Shehu faces is the high cost of the imported fish feed he uses. By purchasing a compressor for Shehu to grind and produce his own fish feed, he can train unemployed teenagers to work the compressors and give them apprenticeships at his fish farm. Fish feed is his biggest expense, comprising of 45% of his costs. Shehu sells a table size fish for 1,225 Naira, meaning 551.25 Naira goes just to feed. Producing his own feed will reduce the cost of feed by 50%-75%, or 413 per fish.

Solution

You can help bring Shehu's business to the next level, creating jobs and feeding the community. Beside the clear and significant benefits to Shehu's Fish Farm there are immeasurable benefits to the community. For example now herders and other local famers can purchase the more affordable and healthier food from Shehu. Now Shehu's apprentices will have a skill for life. If you give a man fish he eats for a day. If you teach a man to fish he eats for life.

Long-Term Impact

By donating you don't just make one business more profitable or help one person. You transform an entire community. You will feed the hungry, get jobs for the unemployed and give hope to the hopeless. In the long term Shehu will make exponentially more money by producing his own fish feed. His fish farm will grow, hiring more employees. Farmers and herders will have a more affordable feed option. Shehu's fish farm will be sustainable due to the changes we implemented.
