Due to the Covid-19 virus outbreak, many students are unable to return to their regular schools. To respond to this situation, Stepping Stones is now training volunteers to teach children who are under home-quarantine.
Children are unable to return to school on time due to the coronavirus outbreak, and have been cooped up at home since the Chinese New Year holiday. Some of them face a quarantine of 14 days once they return to where their schools are. This program will minimize the disruption to these children's English education.
Children can log into the online platform Zoom via a smartphone, tablet or computer to attend English lessons taught by volunteer teachers, supported by the children's parents. To ensure the good quality of the teaching, we maintain a small class size, with one volunteer to five students. We have tailored the PPTs from our Videolink program to make them suitable for teaching grades 2-5 in the Home Classroom context.
To support and encourage children facing isolation and stigma due to the coronavirus outbreak. Apart from providing them with a fun way to improve their English, this also gives them some comfort from the outside world. Like our other English lessons, the new Home Classroom program aims at enhancing children's interest and confidence in speaking English.
