What If We Knew Earlier?

By Chaden Moataz | Projects Manager

Early detection of disabilities is essential for providing children with the early intervention services they need to reach their full potential. In Egypt, there is a need for a comprehensive toolkit that can be used by healthcare professionals, educators, and parents to screen children for disabilities. This toolkit would help to ensure that all children with disabilities are identified early and receive the services they need.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1 in 100 children worldwide has a disability. In Egypt, the prevalence of disabilities is estimated to be around 5%. However, many children with disabilities in Egypt are not identified early. This is due to a number of factors, including:

  • Lack of awareness of disabilities among parents and health care professionals
  • Lack of access to early screening and assessment services
  • Financial barriers to accessing services

A comprehensive toolkit for early detection of disabilities would help to address the challenges that currently exist in Egypt. The toolkit would provide health care professionals, educators, and parents with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to screen children for disabilities. The toolkit would also include information on early intervention services and how to access them.

The toolkit would include the following sections:

  • Introduction to disabilities
  • Screening tools for early detection of disabilities
  • Early intervention services
  • Resources for parents and families.

A comprehensive toolkit for early detection of disabilities would be a valuable resource for health care professionals, educators, and parents in Egypt. The toolkit would help to ensure that all children with disabilities are identified early and receive the services they need.

The toolkit will be evaluated to assess its impact on the early identification of disabilities in Egypt. The evaluation will be conducted by a team of independent evaluators and will use a variety of methods, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups, this to ensure that it is effective in identifying children with disabilities early.
