Pola, aged 63, is raising her three grandchildren, Evalyne who is 12 years old, Junior who is 9 years old and Prosper who is 3 years. Her grandchildren came to live with her two years ago after their mother died from complications during child birth. Pola needed help when she became the sole provider for them. Thanks to YOUR generous support, Pola was able to receive a microfinance loan to help her raise her three young grandchildren!
Pola was given 200,000 Ugandan Shillings (about $59.35 US dollars) which she used to become a coffee bean vendor. She buys raw coffee beans from her neighbors at a reduced rate and then dries the beans and stores them. She waits to sell them until coffee prices increase so that she can maximize her profits. Pola expects to make around 500,000 Ugandan Shillings (about $148.37 US dollars) after all of this coffee is sold. She plans to use the profits to buy the basic necessities for her family and will also save some money to buy more coffee next season. Pola has a future plan of setting up a big store for selling coffee beans, rice, ground nuts and millet if she gets more funds.
