Raise the Roof for Grandmothers!

By Tashmica Torok | Development Associate

In 2012, you built 28 homes, 88 kitchens, and 88 pit-latrines for Nyaka grannies and their grandchildren.

You are raising roofs in rural Uganda!

Because of you, grandmothers like Edvinah have safe homes where they can raise their grandchildren.

Edvinah lovingly raised 13 of her own children and then eight of them passed away leaving behind three young grandchildren - orphaned, alone, and destitute.

Although she lived in abject poverty, Edvinah decided to welcome her grandchildren into her home.

Displeased with her decision, her husband began to physically abuse 68-year-old Edvinah.  She was forced to flee for their safety with no source of income or support.

They were forced to live in a windowless leaking shack.

Can you imagine a grandmother and her grandchildren living in such poverty?   Neither could we.

Today, you are Edvinah's shelter.

You are rebuilding a community one grandmother at a time.

Today Edvinah and her three grandchildren live in the safe and secure home that you built for them.

“I am the happiest Mukaaka in the whole community. I pray that you continue with the same spirit - helping needy people like me.” ~ Mukaaka Edvinah

Edvinah is only one of 6,500 grandmothers supported by the Nyaka Grandmother Program you generously support.

Help us raise 25 new roofs in honor of Edvinah's courage, love and determination this Mother's Day.

GlobalGiving is giving away $5 for every tribute card purchased by May 12, while funds last.

Act fast - time is running out!

Raise the roof for a woman in your life with a life changing gift for a grandmother in Uganda.

Thank YOU!
