Education for Rural Ugandan Children

Cosmas primary goal is thus to enable the children of the most vulnerable households – especially those who cannot access resources – to participate in agriculture so as to access education sponsorship and vocation skilling, while building the families’ capacity to become self-reliant in financing their education.

The beneficiaries of this program determined by local leadership including VC group executives, in addition to screening by the Cosma program team. The program activity funded by returns from the agriculture production and financing program, with consultation and approval from Cosmas partners.

As of this quarter one Cosma has paid school fees to a total number of 16 for children in the previous term.

Vocational training groups in Uganda formed around specific skills or trades, such as tailoring, carpentry, catering, agriculture production, and entrepreneurship. These groups provide a platform for women and youths to acquire practical skills, knowledge, and competencies that are relevant to the local labor market. Group-based approaches are common, fostering peer learning, collaboration, and mutual support among trainees.

Tracy joined Cosma in primary three, from polygamous gamily of eight Children, stayed with Mother. While in school, she struggled with academic performance in class until she requested Cosma to help her join vocational tailoring course. She graduated last year. She has been able to mobilize support from a relative and friends to buy sewing machine, currently now she is working and making design and fashions for women and girls. 

She likes designing and want to work hard and give support to her young siblings and other academically disadvantaged girls who have dropped out of school
