The COSMA Child Sponsorship Program breaks the cycle of poverty by providing tuition and school supplies to vulnerable children in rural Uganda, ensuring they have the resources to stay in school and build a brighter future. By removing financial barriers to education, the program empowers children with knowledge, skills, and opportunities, fostering long-term economic stability for both families and communities.
With 50% of Uganda's population under 15 and only half completing primary school, limited education fuels high poverty rates, with 41% of Ugandans living on less than $2 a day. In 1999, COSMA's first sponsorship recipient, Dennis Mukasa, orphaned at six, pursued his education, earned a medical diploma, and founded a community clinic near Kampala. His story underscores both the urgent need for educational support and the transformative potential of investing in Uganda's youth.
Cosma currently provides tuition, supplies and academic support to 45 children. This relieves a major burden for hard working families but its only a drop in the bucket. Cosma has a large waiting list of at-risk children, and needs your support!
The Child Sponsorship Program creates lasting change by breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering self-sufficient communities. Sponsorship equips children with education, skills, and mentorship, leading to higher education, stable jobs, and entrepreneurship. As they become leaders, professionals, and business owners, they uplift their families and strengthen local economies. Investing in education today ensures a future where communities thrive and opportunity grows for future generations.
