The academic year ended in July with a huge boost for BYMT thanks to the overwhelming support for the Alumni Event, the Annual Garden Party (despite the torrential rain!) and the July Fundraising Campaign. Although most of us were able to have a few weeks rest during the summer following a hectic but wonderful year, BYMT has hit the ground running as far as the 'new (academic) year' is concerned. BYMT staff have been busy getting to grips with a completely new registration system and getting music ready for when the groups and ensembles return. In our first week back, over 130 teaching colleagues attended the BYMT staff training day and around 400 young people turned up to the BYMT Try an Instrument Day - this could be the beginning of something truly life-changing for those young students that came along!
Instrumental and Voice teaching has re-commenced and the BYMT adult and student groups and ensembles started back in the third week of September - we were so thrilled to see our students back making music and hearing choirs, orchestras and bands sing and play again in the BYMT Centres and we are really looking forward to the concerts and performances towards the end of this year! In the meantime, the BYMT office has had a change around and we welcome two new part-time members of staff. You can see us all on the 'Meet The Team' page of the BYMT website: https://www.bymt.co.uk/bymt-team/
We were sad to see Gerald Sterling, the former CEO of BYMT, leave for pastures new at the end of August, as he steered BYMT through some very challenging times, including Covid and the Cost of Living crisis. Whilst we await his replacement, Sue Brown, appointed by the Trustees, is acting CEO/Head of Service and with almost 40 years of experience at BYMT, we are in the most capable hands. Rest assured, the formidable, experienced and enthusiastic Trustees, Senior Leadership Team, Teachers and support staff will ensure that the busy weeks ahead will pass as smoothly as ever and BYMT will be able to continue providing one of the best music services in the country to our enthusuastic and capable young students.
Last but not least, thank you to our amazing and generous patrons and supporters, for continuing to support BYMT. With ever increasing costs, the rent of the BYMT Centre being one of many and the overwhelming demand for financial assistance with music lessons, we honestly would struggle without you.
