The last 3 months once again demonstrated the journey of our BYMT students in full circle, starting in the first week of April with our Easter Sounds course for young musicians beginning their musical journey and finishing with a flourish at the BYMT Summer Garden Party on Sunday 9th July, featuring 18 different musical groups, orchestras and choirs and over 600 performers, aged from 6 to 18.
On the last day of the Easter Sounds course there was an informal concert which left parents, families and staff amazed at how the young musicians had progressed in a matter of days.
The Summer Garden Party was a delight for the audience, consisting of parents, families, friends and the local community, to see and hear the fantastic performances from our young students, some of whom were playing their last concert before graduating from BYMT. Although they will be leaving us as BYMT pupils, we hope they will keep in touch as we want all our students to feel they will always belong to the BYMT family.
Many of our BYMT supporters are former students and help raise money for our Young Musicians’ Bursary Fund, knowing how Music Changes Lives. In April, we held a fundraising dinner for our Notes For Notes campaign and as always, we were humbled by the generosity of Alumni and families, raising over £10,000. This support continued at the Garden Party where Alumni manned a refreshment stand, with all profits going to the Bursary Fund. The musical journey at BYMT doesn’t end when a student graduates at 18, but carries on with adult groups and XBY (Ex Bromley Youth Concert Band) and the opportunity to stay connected with a music service that has been offering music education to young people for over 30 years!
