Thank you for your support of this project. I am writing to share some updates from ActionAid's response to the flooding in Nigeria.
Flood-prone communities in Nigeria have been experiencing the devastating effects of natural disaster. About 110,000 people are estimated to have been affected by these floods so far, with 92 deaths recorded and more than 5,000 persons displaced. Over 1.4 million others across Nigeria are also affected by the flooding. Whether this is from a loss of possessions, housing, or medical care, people continue to feel the devastating consequences of these floods.
In response, ActionAid has provided over 1,200 households with non-food items and cash for food. 500 pregnant and lactating people have also been provided with dignity kits. We continue to prioritize the provision of food, cash, wash and hygiene kits, and other non-food items to women, girls, and people with disabilities. ActionAid remains committed to supporting marginalized communities who often bear the brunt when disaster strikes.
A Nigerian woman who experienced disaster and felt relief from ActionAid's efforts stated:
"My husband is a Farmer, but the flood has submerged his farm too. We no longer have a sustainable source of livelihood. Although, we have temporarily moved to a community that is on a highland and I hope the floods rescind quickly for us to start rebuilding our lives. My husband goes to town daily to do menial jobs so that we can eat. The cash for food from ActionAid will help us for the next three to four weeks."
We remain committed to communities at the frontlines of disaster. Your commitment to disaster relief makes a difference. Thank you for your support and solidarity.
