New Dawn Education
Due to the ongoing conflicts, economic instability, and safety concerns following the coup in Myanmar more than 3 years ago, refugee children over the border are in desperate need of education support because of disruption to safe learning opportunities.
Language barriers, sudden changes in curriculum, financial constraints for uniforms and school supplies, lack of teachers and limited study spaces have led to many dropping out of school.
Following negotiations with authorities and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), schools have been established by Myanmar refugees to provide informal education to refugee children.
Health & Hope has supported these schools by providing stipends for teachers, as well as school building materials and student supplies.
The provision of school building materials and student supplies has significantly improved the learning environment in these makeshift schools. Students now have access to basic learning resources such as textbooks, notebooks, and stationery.
By providing materials for the construction of additional classrooms, more students can now be accommodated, reducing overcrowding, and ensuring a conducive learning environment.
Food Banks
Thanks to generous funding, our six food banks have been re-stocked in the last two months, providing rice, oil and dahl. The food banks are making a significant difference to the lives of those living in camps, providing food items at subsidised prices.
“By establishing a rice bank, it really helps our family who only earn once a month. We would like to express our special gratitude to the donors and Health & Hope for organising the food bank,” says Denpa (name changed).
The food bank is due to be re-stocked next month.
