Tewa through its grant making unit provided a grant of NRs. 100,000.00 (USD-756.00) to Mahila Janachetana Kendra, Jhapa as part of the grant cycle 2021/2022. Five sewing machines were bought by Mahila Janachetana Kendra through the grant amount which was then handed over to a group of 16 adolescents' girls belonging to Muslim community from Jhapa district. Additionally, an amount of twenty thousand has also been provided to them as seed money. Now they have established their own tailoring shop called "Fulbari Tailors" (Picture 1, Picture 2).
With the tailor shop established, the girls are not only earning income but also reshaping their lifestyles and redefining their limits! The girls shared that previously, their mobility was restricted. Their social and cultural norms restricted women from going beyond household chores. But as they have started earning, they have been able to built trust within their families and community which have enabled them to travel to the places they want. Now there are no restrictions, they are limitless!
