Starting from the Scratch
After the completion of 1 year of the Mentorship program for our grantee partners from three districts i.e. Ramechhap, Gorkha and Sindhupalchowk, three days of Mentorship review training was organized from December 11-13, 2018. The target participants for the training were stakeholders of "Hamro Tewa Gaun Ghar program" (HTG) i.e. members from the women's groups', grantee partners and local individual/leaders from these districts. Mentorship program was initiated with an objective to continue the support to empower, strengthen women's groups' formed during 23 months post-earthquake rehabilitation program also known as Hamro Tewa Gaun Ghar and also provide proper guidelines to sustain their organization in future.
24 individuals: 5 male and 19 female of different age group and from the diverse community participated in the training. Three groups from the respective three districts shared the work done during Hamro Tewa Gaun Ghar Program in the communities which included group formation, skill sharing, and awareness of rights of women. The 23 months long project had brought a lot of changes in the lives of an individual as well as community people. Women became self-reliant and started to come together in solidarity to solve different issues, share any skills and mobilize local resources for durable development. The active involvement in the community helped them to build a close relationship with local authorities as well as community people which automatically increased trust in them.
Included in the training were the sessions on Identifying local resources and mobilization, community philanthropy and encouraging organic farming. Sharing from one of the grantee partners of Tewa helped them realize the negative effects of pesticides and insecticides in the environment as well as its direct effect on the health of people. Participants learned in depth about the practices of community philanthropy adopted by Tewa that could be implemented in their locality and also mobilizations of local resources for durable development. Along with this, participants were exposed to the laws and regulations for land management and equal access to effective utilization of local resources.
From the three days of review training, the way forward planning was done. The participants planned to address different issues of women including the indigenous, single women, enhance the capacity of women by providing them different soft skills and leadership training and focusing on IG related programs in an effort to make women financially independent.
The review meeting provided us with insight into the progress these women's groups' have made in their lives and their community. Their dedication to doing something for the community has helped them come so far.
