We are very happy to see that we are winning with literacy at Ncinci Ones Montessori!
This is evident as we see the children choose reading activities daily. Once the children have finished learning the phonic sounds of the alphabet and a few phonograms, they progress onto creating words with the large movable alphabet and pictures. They then read labels and match these to pictures, after which they read word list, phrases and sentences. The children are first taught their mother-tongue, isiXhosa, followed by English.
We were very blessed tor receice a donation of isiXhosa and English small children's books from Book Dash and all the children could choose 5 books to take home. The children were so excited as most of them had no books at home!
We will be working hard to try and improve this sad situation.
Thank you for your support!
Kind regards
Dawn Brochenin
