Thank you for your generous contribution to the GlobalGiving Myanmar and Thailand Earthquake Relief Fund. The devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand last week has left a trail of destruction, with the death toll continuing to rise as search and rescue teams race against time to save lives. Entire communities have been reduced to rubble, and millions of people now face an urgent need for shelter, medical care, and basic necessities. With your support, our partners are already on the ground and in action.

In this moment of crisis, your support is more critical than ever. Thanks to your generosity, aid is already being mobilized—trusted organizations on the ground are delivering lifesaving relief, providing food, water, and emergency medical care to those who need it most. Even with a temporary ceasefire announced in the devastating civil war that has affected the country since 2021, aid organizations face severe restrictions in delivering aid and communication censorship. As one partner who asked not to be named, given Myanmar’s restrictions on aid, noted:

“The military also puts constraints on the operations of large NGOs and restricts where they can work. It is a little easier for smaller charities, like us, to work directly with affected communities wherever they are in the country, as we have managed to keep going in-country despite the coup.”

This partner is working under the radar to support a school and temporary shelter where they can offer immediate relief. In the long term, this grant will help the organization replace lost equipment, including solar chargers and digital library kits, so education in rural areas can be restored.

Now more than ever, it is critically important to support local grassroots efforts already on the ground. Thanks to your donation, funding is already reaching mutual aid collectives, medical teams, primary schools, and social services providers based in the communities affected, making a difference right away even under tremendous hardship.

As always, we thank you for your donation to support local changemakers in communities affected by the crisis. None of this would be possible without you.

Thank you,

Amelia + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
