In 2023, amidst the chaos and horror of the war in South Kivu, where ethnic violence and fighting over natural resources had been tearing the region apart since 2003, a coalition formed by Coopera Congo, SOSAME and SPC took action. This alliance launched an intervention to support the psychosocial health of displaced women, deploying mobile clinics and outpatient care in the most affected areas. With the conflict threatening their lives, these actions provided a glimmer of hope, accompanied by training and community awareness programs.
The project carried out by Coopera Congo, with the help of SOSAME and SPC in 2023 achieved important results in psychosocial support for women displaced by the conflict in South Kivu. Through 3 mobile clinics and 5 outpatient care points, medical and psychological care was provided to hundreds of women for 6 months. Local capacities were strengthened by training health and psychosocial personnel, and community awareness was raised through traditional authorities, a radio program and the documentary film “MAMA”. The clinics also provided hospital care for the most serious cases. in total, we have reached more than 15,000 people.
