Summary

'Connect By Music' brings the lifeline of music and singing to refugees - mostly women and young children - struggling with the stress and fear of daily life. CBM provide regular classes at three otherwise desolate and depressing refugee camps on mainland Greece. For each student, music and singing means everything, which is why we need your help now to make sure they continue to sing.

Challenge

"I was devastated, completely broken in every corner of my soul. I thought I didn't need music in my life, I had more important things to worry about. But one day a friend convinced me to join the Connect by Music choir." Hiba is from Somalia where, amongst other atrocities, she was raped. After fleeing her country, she came to Europe only for history to repeat itself. Too many refugee women share Hiba's feelings of being mentally or physically broken by their experiences and they need our help.

Solution

In Hiba's own words, being in the Connect by Music choir "Gave me a voice, a gear of self-expression and empowerment; it made me feel better than I had ever felt in my entire life. And I felt I was being seen for the first time in a long time." For Hiba and the others, re-discovering themselves through music represents their only lifeline. Music offers them more than just survival, but real hope for their future, and often for their children too.

Long-Term Impact

Hiba describes the choir as the beginning of a new journey for her. After going to classes for almost a year she found a new sense of empowerment in her life and made new friends from many different countries. Hiba sings really beautifully and her self-esteem and confidence have transformed her into a whole new person, full of life & joy. Where would Hiba be today without the Connect by Music choir? How will other women heal if it no longer exists? Donate today and help women heal from trauma.
