Dear friend of Motivation Romania,
I am happy to bring you the good news of how your recurring donations touch the lives of children and adults with mobility disabilities in Romania.
”When I work with the wheelchair user trainers at Motivation, I keep thinking that what they do, I could do as well. Their example encourages me to keep trying.”
Selvis is 25 years old. He has been using a wheelchair for three years, following a work accident, after falling from a height. In the first months after the accident, he needed a lot of help, and his wife was the one who supported him. She helped him with everything he needed to do, but couldn’t anymore. Things like turning from side to side in bed, transferring out of bed, eating or taking care of personal hygiene were suddenly out of reach for him, on his own.
My colleagues from the Motivation team in Constanta gave him the support and encouragement he needed to learn to become active again. Selvis came to one of our active rehabilitation sessions, where he learned to handle the wheelchair better. At the camp, seeing that Selvis` wheelchair skills improved, my colleagues prescribed and donated an active style wheelchair, which was more appropriate for his improved wheelchair maneuvering abilities.
Selvis received his new wheelchair in June. He is independent now and can do almost everything by himself. He is happy that he no longer needs to ask his wife for so much help, and feels like his relationship is better because of this.
Selvis and his wife have a 3-year-old boy. His wife was pregnant when the accident happened, and the boy was born a few months later. Selvis is coming to terms with the loss he suffered during the accident, but he is also immensely grateful for the joy of his son`s birth and for having a supportive family besides him. When he is not attending rehabilitation, he goes out to the park with his son and his wife. He is happy that his new skills and his new wheelchair enable him to do so many things with his family.
Each year, Motivation gives back hope to more than 1,000 persons with disabilities like Selvis, by donating wheelchairs and providing wheelchair skills training.
This year, we gave back hope in a life of fulfilment to eight wheelchair users, through donations received on GlobalGiving, after accidents or illnesses had taken all hope away.
Motivation is here to support each wheelchair user on this journey. As new wheelchair users come to us for help, YOUR donation enables us to reach out to each. If you are able to turn your donation into a monthly gift, you will boost our ability to respond quickly to the ongoing need for appropriate wheelchair donations.
Make a monthly gift of hope and freedom of movement to children and adults with mobility disabilities like Selvis!
YOU help change lives for the better.
Thank you!
