Spring update from Motivation Romania

Dear friend,

We are navigating difficult times: looking forward to the end of the two-year pandemic yet worried about the onset of the war in Ukraine. At Motivation Romania, we are continuing to address the needs of wheelchair users throughout Romania, through the Wheelchair Fund, while also sending mobility equipment to our borders with Ukraine, or to Romanian organizations welcoming refugees who have left their mobility equipment behind!

In 2021 Motivation`s teams helped change the lives of 919 children and adults with mobility disabilities through the Wheelchair Fund – 11 were made possible by GlobalGiving donors!

In 2022, by end of February, Motivation helped 165 people with disabilities with donations of appropriate wheelchairs, of which 4 with the help of GlobalGiving donors.

These achievements were only possible with your help and that of all Motivation friends. You all joined hands, and resources, across Romania and internationally, to support Motivation in our work to give back mobility through donations of appropriate wheelchairs to those who need them to regain their personal independence.

Fall update on the Romanian Wheelchair Fund 2021

Dear friend,

Can you believe how time flies? There I was, in July, writing you the first update on the 2021 Wheelchair Fund, and now we are already in mid-November, so close to the year`s end!

In July, I was happily reporting that we had re-started our wheelchair donations and independent living training activities for children and adults with mobility disabilities in Romania. Now I have more good news to share about our programs:

- at the end of July, we opened our newest wheelchair accessible camp – this time, a summer tent camp near our headquarters in Bragadiru. In July-September, the new camp hosted 15 wheelchair users at peer group trainings and other activities and we look forward to a summer full of wheelchair skills trainings in 2022.

- during July – September, Motivation donated 169 wheelchairs, for a total of 662 lives changed for the better in 2021 through the Wheelchair Fund. Granny Veta is one of them. Read her story here and see how a wheelchair can brighten up one`s world!

As a close friend of Motivation Romania, I thought you would enjoy our three good deeds challenge to #changeslives for the better:

1. Start the month of giving by turning your gift into a recurring donation to the Wheelchair Fund 2021. This will increase the impact you make on the lives of Romanian wheelchair users.

2. End this good day by inviting at least five friends or family to give to the Wheelchair Fund 2021. Motivation Romania will turn these donations into gifts of mobility for children and adults with disabilities who need wheelchairs.

3. On November 30 this year, join Motivation Romania for a new round of GivingTuesday. Spread the word, make a gift to the Wheelchair Fund on GlobalGiving, and your gifts have the chance to be matched by GlobalGiving and thereby increase their impact. Stay tuned, as I will come back with details on that, soon!

July update on The Romanian Wheelchair Fund 2021

Dear friend,

Here we are, at the first 2021 update on the Wheelchair Fund in Romania! I am so happy we got to this point, where we re-started our wheelchair donations and independent living training activities for children and adults with mobility disabilities in Romania.

Galina and Mihai are two sweet 2-year old twins who share the same diagnosis, coming from quadruplets and being the two who have mobility disabilities. Now, thanks to you and other donors to the Wheelchair Fund, Galina and Mihai also share the joy of discovering freedom of movement. Read here the story of Galina and Mihai, the twins #TeamMotivation recently helped through the Wheelchair Fund, with light, kid-sized, active-style wheelchairs for children provided by our friends from Agape Foundation in Sweden.

As for the total impact of our Wheelchair Fund in 2021, I can proudly say that, by June`s end, we donated 493 wheelchairs funded through the Wheelchair Fund (donations from 2020 for 2021). Of these, 5 wheelchairs funded on GlobalGiving were also given out to users who needed them. Together, we #changelives for the better!

I was telling you before that in June we also started to organize peer group independent living camps (2 weeks) and one-day sessions (caravans) after a two year break imposed by the pandemic. These events bring togehter wheelchair users who received a wheelchair through the Wheelchair Fund, or who need one now, with Motivation`s peer group independent living trainers who are experienced wheelchair users themselves. You can see here how wheelchair users as well as our regional teams enjoyed coming back to the work they love most!
