The Burmese migrant community faces numerous challenges when it comes to accessing quality healthcare in Thailand. Language barriers, cultural differences, financial constraints, and limited knowledge about local healthcare systems often prevent them from receiving timely and appropriate medical assistance. In such circumstances, Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) emerge as crucial pillars of support, bridging the gap between healthcare services and Burmese migrants.
Community Health Volunteers play a pivotal role in addressing the healthcare needs of Burmese migrants. Together with focal point of each communities and local partners we train members of Burmese communities recently moved in Ranong to provide basic healthcare services, health education, and referrals to migrants.
The training is performed by our Burmese medical team who shared the same culture and language of the communities we serve; the topic of CHV trainings covers:
- health education sessions and workshops to raise awareness about hygiene practices, disease prevention, family planning, and reproductive health. They provide essential information in a culturally appropriate manner, ensuring that migrants understand and can implement these practices in their daily lives.
-health check-ups within the community, monitoring vital signs and identifying potential health risks. They refer migrants to appropriate healthcare providers when needed, ensuring that they receive timely medical attention and follow-up care.
By empowering and supporting CHVs, we can bridge the gap in healthcare access and build a healthier, more inclusive community for Burmese migrants.
