REDUCE ANEMIA (Third Trimester of 2020)

GLOBAL GIVING REPORT

SAVE MORE THAN 80 KIDS FROM ANEMIA IN RURAL PERU

(Third Trimester of 2020)

Dear donor, we would like to express our most profound and sincere gratitude for all your contributions. Due to the help awarded by each and every one of you, the nutritional project continues to thrive, even throughout the difficulties originated by the global pandemic. These are trying times, but with unity and commitment we are confident we will overcome the current situation.

6 Months have gone by since we began placing our primary focus on the health and safety of children located in the rural surroundings of the city of Ancash – we would like to share with you some of the strides Misión Huascaran has been successful in.

With you help, our nutritional program has been able to reach the most remote populated areas in Ancash!  We will forever be thankful!

In 2020, we were able to identify from a sample of our target audience which had an initial anemic prevalence of 43%. Subsequently after 2 months of work, we reduced this percentage to 33%. To the date we’ve been able to optimize screenings, while following all the necessary biohazard requirements recommended by public health professionals. As a result, the families of 190 kids have now knowledge of their children’s current anemic status.  Additionally, individuals who benefited from the nutritional program have received anti-anemic bars to further compliment their progress. Simultaneously, Misión Huascaran is currently receiving the primary results of 147 families who participated in the Organic Garden Program. These families are now seeing the results of their first successful and fully grown crops, such as:  lettuce, spinach, beets, among other vegetables high in nutritional content.

Even though difficulties continue to arise, we are gearing our efforts by taking the following measures:

  • Continuing to administer screenings via basal bloodwork to an additional 146 children.
  • Successful deliveries of new dosage of anti-anemic bars, so that children can further compliment their nutrition – ultimately benefitting 187 children.
  • Introducing a Cookbook with different alternatives high in nutritional value.
