2023 Fourth Quarter MH Nutrition Project

By Pim van den Hoven | Head of Social Projects

Dear donor,

We would like to express our most profound and sincere gratitude for all your contributions. Due to the help awarded by each one of you, the Mision Huascaran Nutrition Program continues to thrive and expand.

Below we share the MH Nutrition Program Progress Report up to December 2023

Nutrition improvements

  1. In the fourth quarter, our anti-anemia bakery produced 71.139 iron-enriched bread rolls to feed +570 children and pregnant women from Huashcao, Canchapampa, Congar, Punyan, Amashca and Pariaqaqa villages
  2. Milk and fish distribution continued monthly, handing out 2 tons of frozen fish on each occasion. From october to december, almost 2.400 milk products were also handed out by Mision Huascaran to the population, benefitting 1,075 persons.
  3. The egg laying hen project at the Pariaqaqa school produced over 11.699 free-range eggs up to December 2023. 70 school going children had an additional daily boiled egg for lunch. Each egg provides invaluable nutrients for the children’s physical development. As such, the project is improving the protein intake of the children, providing 6 grams of additional protein and all essential amino acids.
  4. Our nutritionists participated in 8 healthcare campaigns, holding 66 nutritional advisory sessions, in total they held 70 community educational events benefitting over 30 rural communities in topics such as nutrition, health and hygiene.
  5. The agro-technicians from Misión Huascarán supervised almost 100 vegetable gardens. Vegetable gardens are an important tool in the search for food security for the rural family, making them more resilient and sustainable in the long term.
  6. In December we realized the final hemoglobin screening in the targeted population, the results are encouraging

To continue expanding our reach, we require all the help you can give – utilizing the GlobalGiving platform.  The world continuously makes us face great challenges for our societies; and the children are the light and hope at the end of the tunnel for a bright future.

We thank you for all the help you’ve given and will continue to give in the future.
