At the end of November 2024, Lesly Esperanza Bravo Ramírez embarked on a transformative journey into the unknown, filled with uncertainty and fear. Yet, this experience became the greatest gift of her life, leading to self-discovery, deep reflection, and a renewed sense of purpose.
She had the honor of participating in the II Latin American Meeting on Childbirth and Birth in João Pessoa, Brazil, alongside 62 extraordinary women: midwives, doulas, birth attendants, and maternal health specialists. This gathering strengthened her connection to her work as a midwife, doula, and breastfeeding specialist and allowed her to embrace her calling as a source of support and transformation for women during one of the most pivotal moments of their lives.
Before this journey, she carried the weight of pain, anxiety, and depression—feelings she struggled to understand. However, through solitude and self-reflection, she found clarity: her purpose was to be an agent of change, a companion, and a catalyst for healing.
The meeting was filled with warmth, laughter, tears, and shared wisdom. She learned healing techniques, ancestral approaches to care, and the deep responsibility that comes with supporting women through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. One of the most profound moments was the "New Birth Therapy," where she revisited her own birth experience. In this exercise, participants formed a tunnel, symbolizing the vaginal canal, allowing those seeking healing to pass through and release past traumas. She realized that while she felt connected to her origins, she lacked love at birth. This insight deepened her understanding of the importance of a humanized, love-filled birth, where women are honored, respected, and cared for.
Through this experience, she came to see midwifery as more than a profession—it is a sacred role that integrates physical, emotional, and spiritual support. This gathering not only enriched her professionally but also freed her from personal traumas. Today, she feels more connected than ever to her mission: to accompany, listen, heal, and transform lives.
