Covid-19 Crisis and Honduras

By Lauren O'Neill | Co-Founder

Partners are more isolated during the Pandemic
Partners are more isolated during the Pandemic

Dear Friend,

We hope that this update finds you and your loved ones well during this complex time. As the globe has been rocked by the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, we at The Solidarity Project have been working hard to be responsive to our seven partner communities, their leaders, and the new needs that are being identified in response to this crisis. In Honduras, a strict military lockdown has been in order since March 16th. This crisis has quickly grounded and isolated a country of nine million people and made life even more challenging for many marginalized communities in both rural and urban areas. These conditions have greatly affected our partner communities in rural Honduras as the lockdown conditions have limited circulation and suspended all public transportation. As in many places in the world, the grinding halt of lockdowns has been devastating to the economy and many people have lost jobs, income, and a sense of security, the same is true for Honduras.

Currently, our work is centered on finding a way to adapt our community micro granting model and identify projects that can support the new needs that this crisis has pushed to the forefront of everyday life. The areas of health education, food security, community resiliency, and sustainable living have been identified by our current partners. Thanks to your support we can continue to develop appropriate responses to this crisis and monitor new information, both globally and locally. We are moving forward to and make the necessary adaptations to stand in solidarity with our partners during this challenging time.

Throughout this global crisis, The Solidarity project will remain committed to supporting talented local leaders, fostering engagement, and sharing the stories of solidarity and resiliency that are seen throughout the rural communities in Honduras. We look forward to finding new ways to support our partners during this time and sharing that news with you. Thank you for your continued support. It is so deeply appreciated.

Stay Safe & Take Care,

The Solidarity Project Team
