The COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruptions of daily life across the world. In China, the combination of financial pressure, ongoing lockdown and uncertainty is caused a tremendous stress for families. With the shortage of mental health services and resources available in rural areas, and they are highly vulnerable to trauma.
Rici Foundation focuses on the prevention of mental health issues for children at an early stage. As response, Rici have launched this program to help support rural teachers with systematic training, curriculum support, and community operations to develop the ability of rural teachers to carry out mental health education for rural children, to help them cope with stress, anxious and fear during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the reopening of school in September, more than 200 rural teachers have joined in Rici’s program, over 20,000 rural children access to mental health curriculums. In the Fall 2020 semester, Rici team will not only conduct a series of on-site visit to rural schools, but also launch a series of online training sessions for teachers, providing instruction for teachers in recognizing children’s anxiety, emotional, and mental health challenges and helping to ensure their well-being.
