Helping Youth Recover from Mental Health Challenge

By Mbarara Rise | Project leader

The COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted young people’s mental health, leading to increased stress, anxiety, and depression. Many faced isolation, economic hardship, and disruptions in education and employment. To address these challenges, targeted interventions were implemented to support their emotional well-being and resilience.

What Was Done:

  1. Mental Health Support & Counseling – We facilitated access to professional counseling services, peer support groups, and mental health awareness campaigns to help youth cope with post-pandemic stress and anxiety.
  2. Community Engagement & Safe Spaces – Youth-led dialogues and workshops were organized to encourage open discussions about mental health, reduce stigma, and create supportive environments for those struggling.
  3. Economic Empowerment Programs – We provided vocational training, small business support, and financial literacy sessions to help youth regain economic stability and independence.
  4. Educational Reintegration Support – Assistance was given to students who had dropped out due to COVID-19, ensuring they could return to school through scholarships, mentorship, and career guidance.
  5. Health & Wellness Activities – Physical well-being was prioritized through sports, wellness programs, and access to healthcare services, promoting holistic recovery for young people.

These interventions have helped youth regain confidence, improve their mental health, and rebuild their lives post-pandemic. However, continued support is needed to ensure long-term recovery and resilience for those still facing challenges.
