Help with Mending the Hearts of 15 Afghan Kids
According to the WHO data, Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) deaths in Afghanistan have reached to over 32,000 or 14.39% of total deaths. Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is a problem of the structure of the heart that is present at birth. It can affect how blood flows through the heart and out to the rest of the body. Common examples include holes in different areas of the heart and narrow or leaky valves. In children the most common type of CHD is the ventricular septal defect (VSD), a hole in the wall separating the bottom two chambers of the heart (the ventricles). Many Afghan infants with CHD needs surgery to survive. FMIC is one of the few places in Afghanistan where CHD patients can be treated. FMIC is doing surgeries with relatively low cost and achieve outcomes that meet the highest standards. Each year our team of experts performs more than 250 Paediatric cardiac surgeries with almost 90% of these patients require financial assistance.
FMIC’s success in providing international quality care to the poor population of Afghanistan has not been possible without the generous support of donors like you. FMIC ensures that no patient leaves the hospital untreated due to lack of money. FMIC’s Patient Welfare Program has been in place since the establishment of the hospital and has helped over 600,000 needy patients with services worth over US$ 41 million. For many patients, even a $10 expense is an obstacle to healthcare. Imagine that just a few dollars contributed by you can help save a life. A donation of $10 will pay for an initial visit to a doctor, $15 will pay for one-night stay of a patient in general ward, $65 will pay for one night stay of a patient in the Intensive Care Unit.
FMIC is a nonprofit hospital located in Kabul, Afghanistan. It is a product of a four-way unique partnership between Government of Afghanistan, Government of France, French International NGO Lachaine Delespoir and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). For the past 15 years, FMIC has been serving Afghans while focusing on quality services, innovation and building capacities in terms of human resources and technology.
