The Medical Imaging Suite project has received many generous donations since it was initiated four months ago by the American Partners. GlobalGiving’s Giving Tuesday campaign in November 2022 allowed us to raise $5,041 for the project and since then an additional $9,880 have been donated toward the $45,000 goal needed to complete the entire facility.
As stated in our project description, this facility is critically important for providing Mwandi hospital’s medical practitioners with accurate diagnostic tools, allowing the patients to receive the best care and treatment. Further, the imaging suite will help the hospital achieve Level 2 medical facility status. An x-ray machine will be provided by the Zambian government as soon as the hospital has a safe containment area in the imaging facility to house the machine.
The hospital's management team selected the best site for the imaging facility (see attached pictures). The process for determining this site required careful planning in order to ensure that the building would not infringe on any underground electrical cables or pipes. Once the site was selected, some slight modifications had to be made to the original building design in order to accommodate it on the selected site. The modified building footprint was then laid out on the ground (see attached pictures). The next steps will be clearing the building site, followed by excavating and pouring the foundation. We anticipate that the facility construction will be well underway in the next few months.
As always, we thank our donors and partners for recognizing the healthcare needs in the Mwandi District of Western Province Zambia. In our next report, we hope that the facility is nearing completion and ready to use.
