On Januray 24 a team of 8 from Portland, Oregon traveled to remote northeastern Uganda to work on completing a medical clinic and starting construction on a nurse's house. We camped for 9 days in the "bush" and enjoyed every minute of it. We got to work alongside many young tribal young men who were eager to see the project completed. It was nearly 100 dgrees everyday and working at an elevation of 4000 feet was tiring, but the work so very rewarding.
We are helping to build the clinic that will serve 15,000 villagers because of the positive impact we believe will come to the villagers. Today we are told that 10% of the children do not live beyond age 5. Aslo, 20% of the women are dieing in child-birth because of Hepatitus E.
Once the clinic and home are completed, which we except will be by mid-March, the government will place a fulltime nurse in the village.
A local govenment official that reports directly to the President of Uganda visited our project and said it will truly change the lives of his people. He promised more support from the local government.
